SYNOPSIS

The film follows the traces of the indigenous  photographer Martín Chambi (b.1891) in the Quechua communities he immortalized in his portraiture, to question how the spaces he registered have changed over time.

THUS SPOKE THE MOUNTAINS is a minimalist road movie through Cuzco, depicting syncretism, and festivities to investigate what remains of Andean culture 50 years after Chambi’s death.

This visual poem is dedicated to early black and white photography history and Cuzco light.
